Job Description

Our client, a leading consulting and professional services organisation, is seeking a highly experienced  Energy Economist Expert to support a specialised agrivoltaics research assignment in Uganda. This role is ideal for professionals with deep expertise in energy economics, renewable energy financing, and investment modelling, particularly within the African context.

As the Energy Economist Expert, you will work closely with the team leader throughout the planning, execution, and delivery of the assignment. Your responsibilities will include drafting the  Inception Report , contributing to stakeholder consultations in partnership with GIZ, and conducting comprehensive economic and financial viability assessments for agrivoltaics projects. You will develop innovative financing models and investment frameworks that support long-term sustainability and commercial feasibility.

A core part of the role involves leading tariff structure recommendations and advising on incentives that encourage private-sector participation. You will apply advanced analytical techniques to produce detailed  cost-benefit analyses , value-for-money assessments, and economic projections that guide national-level decision-making.

The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in renewable energy economics, infrastructure financing, and applied research. You must have demonstrated experience conducting solar feasibility studies, preparing economic assessments for renewable energy systems, and evaluating agrivoltaics initiatives. Experience working on agrivoltaics projects within Africa is essential.

Qualifications Required

  • Master’s or PhD in Energy Economics, Finance, Development Economics, or related fields
  • C1 proficiency in English
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in energy economics, cost-benefit modelling, and infrastructure financing
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in solar feasibility studies and agrivoltaics-related economic research
  • At least 3 years working on agrivoltaics studies in Africa

This is a  contractor position based in Uganda, offering a competitive rate of  USD 350–450 per project phase , with a planned start date of  1 January 2026 . Only one position is available.
