Position Summary

The Enrolled Nurse will provide safe, competent, and compassionate basic nursing care to clients at Healing Grace Medical Center, working under the supervision of the Registered Nurse and Clinical Officer.

The role involves delivering high-quality, Christ-centered customer care while maintaining professional nursing standards and adhering to the professional code of conduct established by the Uganda Nurses and Midwives Council.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical & Client Care

  • Receive and welcome clients and assist with triage.
  • Take and accurately record vital signs, weight, and basic clinical observations.
  • Provide basic bedside nursing care, including hygiene, feeding assistance, positioning, and comfort measures.
  • Administer prescribed medications, injections, and immunizations under appropriate supervision.
  • Assist with wound care, dressing changes, and other basic clinical procedures.
  • Support antenatal, postnatal, child health, immunization, and family planning clinics.
  • Assist with emergency care and client stabilization.
  • Promptly report changes in clients’ conditions to the Registered Nurse or Clinical Officer.
  • Monitor clients’ comfort and well-being.
  • Educate clients and caregivers on hygiene, medication use, nutrition, and self-care.
  • Provide holistic physical, emotional, and spiritual support, including prayer where appropriate and welcomed.
  • Strictly follow infection prevention and control procedures.
  • Safely handle and dispose of sharps and clinical waste.

Administrative Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate and confidential client records.
  • Complete nursing notes, vital signs charts, and vaccination records accurately.
  • Assist with daily and weekly nursing returns and statistics.
  • Monitor basic medical and nursing supplies and report shortages or expiring items.
  • Assist with cleaning, sterilization, proper use, and safe storage of equipment.
  • Support appointment scheduling, home visits, and follow-up care.
  • Ensure compliance with clinic policies, national health regulations, and data protection standards.
  • Assist in preparing clinic records and facilities for inspections, audits, and health-authority visits.

Customer Care & Stakeholder Relations

  • Welcome and serve clients with warmth, respect, dignity, and patience.
  • Communicate clearly and respectfully with clients and caregivers.
  • Maintain a calm and reassuring approach when dealing with anxious or vulnerable clients.
  • Help manage client flow and waiting areas efficiently.
  • Listen to client concerns and complaints and refer them appropriately.
  • Protect client confidentiality and privacy at all times.
  • Follow up with clients and families as directed.
  • Maintain professional relationships with colleagues, management, suppliers, and visiting partners.
  • Represent the clinic courteously when engaging with community members, local leaders, and community health volunteers.
  • Demonstrate Christ-like compassion and encouragement in all interactions.

Collaborative & Team Duties

  • Work closely with Registered Nurses, Clinical Officers, midwives, laboratory technicians, pharmacy staff, and community health workers.
  • Participate in clinical team meetings, case reviews, and quality improvement activities.
  • Learn from and work respectfully under the guidance of senior nursing staff.
  • Engage with community health volunteers and partner organizations supporting outreach programs.
  • Participate in staff devotions, fellowships, and community outreach initiatives.

Professional Development

  • Pursue continuous personal and professional development.
  • Attend Continuing Nursing Education (CNE) sessions.
  • Maintain valid professional licensing and certification.
  • Stay updated on relevant nursing practices and national health guidelines.

Other Duties

  • Perform other duties assigned by the Registered Nurse, Clinical Officer, or administration as required.
Required Qualifications & Experience
  • Certificate in Enrolled Nursing from a recognized and accredited institution.
  • Valid registration and practicing license with the Uganda Nurses and Midwives Council.
  • Minimum 1–2 years of nursing experience.
  • Experience in primary care, rural, or community health settings is preferred.
  • Good understanding of basic nursing procedures.
  • Knowledge of maternal and child health.
  • Understanding of common health conditions relevant to the local community.
Technical Competencies
  • Proficiency in basic clinical procedures and vital-sign monitoring.
  • Ability to administer medication under appropriate supervision.
  • Good record-keeping and reporting skills.
  • Willingness to learn and use health information systems such as HMIS/DHIS2.
  • Knowledge of infection prevention and control.
  • Safe handling and management of medical supplies.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong customer-care orientation.
  • Ability to remain calm and effective under pressure and during emergencies.
  • Basic computer literacy is an added advantage.
  • Ability to create a safe, dignified, and nurturing environment for clients.
