Job Description

We are recruiting a  GIS and Land Use Planning Expert to support a national-level agrivoltaics study in Uganda. This contractor role is suited for a seasoned GIS professional with strong land-use planning experience and an excellent command of spatial analysis tools.

Working under the guidance of the team leader, you will contribute to the full lifecycle of the assignment—from planning to execution and reporting. Your role begins with conducting an extensive  desk review of relevant literature , followed by contributing to the drafting of the  Inception Report . You will collaborate with GIZ to coordinate stakeholder consultations essential for validating data and aligning with national priorities.

Your primary responsibility will be to  identify and map suitable land parcels for agrivoltaics deployment. This will require advanced geospatial analysis to assess land-use constraints, environmental risks, site accessibility, and potential for long-term development. You will also create spatial planning outputs that guide decision-makers on optimal siting and land allocation.

The successful candidate should possess strong capabilities in geospatial data interpretation, environmental mapping, and spatial data visualisation. You will be expected to prepare high-quality maps and planning documents that can inform technical teams, policymakers, and stakeholders.

Qualifications Required

  • Master’s degree in GIS & Remote Sensing, Geo-Information Science & Technology, Geography, or Urban/Regional Planning
  • C1 English proficiency; knowledge of a Ugandan local language is an advantage
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in land use planning, GIS analysis, and spatial data management
  • Minimum 5 years working on GIS and land planning projects in Uganda
  • Proven expertise in geospatial visualisation and environmental risk mapping

This national contractor role is based in Uganda and offers a pay range of  USD 250–350 per project phase , starting  1 January 2026 . One position is available.
