About the Role

The Nursery Teacher will support the holistic development of young children by providing age-appropriate, play-based learning in line with Uganda’s Early Childhood Development (ECD) curriculum. The teacher will create a safe, loving, and stimulating environment that supports children’s academic, social, physical, emotional, and spiritual growth.

Key Responsibilities

Plan and deliver age-appropriate, play-based lessons based on the Uganda ECD curriculum.
Teach early language, literacy, numeracy, environmental, creative, religious, health, and physical development skills.
Develop children’s language skills through storytelling, songs, rhymes, picture reading, and conversation.
Introduce early numeracy through counting, shapes, sorting, matching, patterns, and hands-on activities.
Organize creative activities such as drawing, colouring, modelling, music, singing, and dancing.
Integrate Christian values, Bible stories, and age-appropriate moral teaching into daily activities.
Support children’s fine and gross motor development through play and physical activities.
Use locally available materials and teaching aids to make learning engaging.
Observe, assess, and record children’s developmental progress.
Organize thematic activities, nature walks, market days, and other learning experiences.
Maintain a safe, clean, welcoming, and stimulating classroom.
Use positive and age-appropriate approaches to manage children’s behaviour.
Closely supervise children during lessons, meals, play, naps, and transitions.
Identify signs of distress, developmental delays, or health concerns and report them appropriately.
Promote kindness, inclusion, respect, and positive relationships among children.
Maintain accurate attendance, health, developmental, and learner progress records.
Prepare simple progress reports for parents and guardians.
Communicate regularly with parents about children’s development and learning.
Work closely with other teachers and school leadership.
Participate in school activities, devotions, fellowships, and community outreach.
Participate in staff development and ECD training.
Stay updated on effective early childhood teaching practices.
Perform other duties assigned by the Head Teacher or administration.

Required Qualifications & Experience

Certificate or Diploma in Early Childhood Development (ECD) Education or a related field from a recognized institution.
Minimum 2 years of teaching experience in a nursery or early childhood setting.
Good understanding of Uganda’s ECD curriculum.
Knowledge of child development milestones and play-based teaching methods.
