About the Role

The School Bursar will oversee the school’s financial operations, including school fees collection, budgeting, financial records, procurement, inventory, petty cash, and internal controls. The role ensures that school funds and resources are managed responsibly, transparently, and in accordance with organizational policies.

Key Responsibilities

Manage the day-to-day financial operations of the school.
Prepare and monitor the annual school budget.
Monitor expenditure and advise school leadership on financial matters.
Coordinate collection of school fees and other school revenue.
Maintain accurate records of fees paid, balances, and outstanding payments.
Follow up with parents and guardians regarding outstanding fees.
Issue receipts and maintain proper documentation for all payments.
Manage petty cash and maintain accurate petty cash records.
Conduct regular cash and account reconciliations.
Maintain accurate books of accounts, ledgers, cash books, receipts, and invoices.
Prepare financial statements and regular financial reports.
Reconcile bank statements and other financial accounts.
Maintain proper filing and storage of financial documents.
Support internal and external audits.
Coordinate procurement of school supplies, materials, and services.
Obtain and compare quotations to ensure value for money.
Maintain accurate inventory records for school assets and supplies.
Conduct regular stock checks and reconcile physical stock with records.
Implement internal controls to safeguard school funds and assets.
Ensure proper authorization and documentation of financial transactions.
Identify and report financial irregularities and risks.
Ensure compliance with AsOne financial policies, donor requirements, and government regulations.
Safeguard and properly manage school funds, grants, and donor contributions.
Communicate fees, payment deadlines, and financial matters clearly to parents and guardians.
Liaise with suppliers, banks, government offices, and other stakeholders.
Provide timely financial updates to school leadership and AsOne Ministries.
Perform other duties assigned by the Head Teacher or administration.

Required Qualifications & Experience

Diploma or Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
Professional certification such as ACCA, CPA, or equivalent is an added advantage.
Minimum 2 years of experience in accounting, financial management, or bursary work.
Experience in a school or non-profit organization is an added advantage.
Good knowledge of bookkeeping, financial reporting, and basic accounting principles.
Personal Christian faith and commitment to financial integrity and stewardship.

Strong understanding of internal financial controls.
Ability to prepare clear financial reports for school leadership.
