Company Description

Sironko District is in the Eastern Region of Uganda, within the Bugisu sub-region. It was created by an Act of Parliament and became effective in July 2000 after being carved out of the former Mbale District. The district is bordered by Bulambuli to the north, Kapchorwa and Kween to the northeast, Kenya to the east, Bududa to the southeast, Mbale to the southwest, and Bukedea to the west. Sironko town serves as the district headquarters and is the main commercial and administrative centre. The area features a varied landscape influenced by the slopes of Mount Elgon and supports a predominantly agrarian economy. Agriculture is the mainstay, with food crops such as beans, cassava, potatoes, millet, and sweet potatoes grown, and cash crops including coffee and cotton contributing to local income. Part of Mount Elgon National Park lies within the district, making it a key site for tourism and conservation.

The Sironko District Local Government is responsible for planning, coordinating, and delivering public services to the people of the district under Uganda’s decentralised governance framework. It manages development planning, budgeting, and implementation across priority sectors including education, health, agriculture, works and technical services, community development, and natural resource management. Through its administrative structures — including rural lower local governments and town councils — the local government mobilises resources, supervises service delivery institutions, and aligns national policies with local development needs. Sironko District has 19 rural lower local governments and two town councils, with many parishes and villages that decentralise service reach to the grassroots. The Sironko District Service Commission is the statutory body mandated to manage human resource functions within the district public service. Its responsibilities include conducting recruitment exercises, confirming appointments, handling promotions, and administering disciplinary matters for officers employed by the district. By ensuring that staffing decisions are based on merit, fairness, and transparency, the Commission strengthens professionalism and accountability within the district workforce. It plays a key role in enabling the local government to maintain a competent and effective public service that can meet the needs of residents across Sironko.
