Company Description
The Eastern African Sub-Regional Support Initiative for the Advancement of Women (EASSI) was founded in 1996 with a mission rooted in the historic commitments made at the Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing in 1995 and the African Preparatory Conference in Dakar in 1994. EASSI emerged to ensure the continued advancement of women’s rights and social justice, serving as a driving force to uphold and monitor these Platforms for Action across Eastern Africa.
EASSI’s work is framed by key international agreements, including the Beijing Platform for Action, the African Platform for Action, and additional frameworks such as the Maputo Protocol, Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW), UNSCR 1325 on Women, Peace and Security, and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) under Agenda 2030. These instruments guide our mission to promote gender equality, strengthen economic and social justice, and support sustainable development for women and girls across the region.
