Company Description

Watoto Ministries is a holistic community-based organization and church based in Kampala, Uganda, founded in 1984 by Gary and Marilyn Skinner. Originally established as Watoto Church (formerly Kampala Pentecostal Church), the ministry has evolved into a global movement dedicated to social transformation, with a primary mission to “rescue a child, raise a leader, and rebuild a nation.” Under the current leadership of Julius and Vernita Rwotlonyo, it continues to address the spiritual and physical needs of vulnerable populations across the region.
The humanitarian arm, Watoto Child Care Ministries, was launched in 1994 to support orphans and vulnerable children. Unlike traditional orphanages, Watoto utilizes a unique village model. Each village consists of family homes where eight children live with a mother who provides a stable, nurturing environment. These children receive comprehensive care, including quality education, healthcare, and vocational training, all aimed at equipping them to become future leaders in their communities.
Beyond childcare, the ministry operates “Watoto Neighbourhood,” an initiative designed to empower vulnerable women, including widows and those living with HIV/AIDS. Through this program, women receive medical care, adult literacy classes, and skills training in areas like tailoring and baking to help them achieve economic independence. The ministry is also well known for the Watoto Children’s Choir, which travels globally as an ambassador for the organization, sharing stories of hope through music and dance.
