Company Description
The National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) is a government-owned public utility established in 1972, mandated to provide water supply and sewerage services across major urban centers in Uganda. Operating on a commercially viable basis, the corporation serves approximately 18 million people across 282 towns, managing nearly one million water connections. It is headquartered on Nakasero Road in Kampala and operates through five regional clusters covering the entire country.
Under its Corporate Plan 2024–2027, the NWSC is currently focused on expanding its infrastructure to meet a target population of 25 million people by 2029. Major ongoing projects include the expansion of the Katosi Water Works to increase production by 80,000 cubic meters daily and the refurbishment of the Ggaba treatment complex to secure water for the Kampala Metropolitan Area through 2040. The corporation is also increasingly prioritizing climate resilience and environmental stewardship, recently inaugurating a new Board of Directors in early 2026 to drive these innovations.
Beyond its primary mandate, the NWSC has evolved into a regional center for utility excellence, providing external consultancy, vocational training, and laboratory services to other water authorities across Africa. It utilizes homegrown digital solutions like the MapKit GIS application for real-time leak detection and incident management. While the corporation faces challenges such as high non-revenue water and outstanding arrears from government agencies, it remains one of the largest and most technically efficient state-owned enterprises in Uganda.

- Infrastructure Development: Implementing large-scale capital projects like the Service Coverage Acceleration Project (SCAP 100) to ensure at least one safe water point per village.
- External Services: Offering specialized advisory in GIS mapping, ICT billing solutions, and water quality testing to regional utilities.
