Job Description

Job Title: Data and Training Analyst

Location: Mbarara, Uganda. This role will include frequent travel across Western Uganda.

Reports To: Country Representative, Director of Data and Training

DelAgua is a social enterprise with more than a decade of experience implementing large-scale carbon development projects that transform the lives of rural households in least developed countries across Africa. Our Live Well programme uses carbon finance to fund the free provision of a high quality, fuel-efficient stove with integrated education and life-long support.

Today over 2 million stoves have been distributed, transforming over 9 million lives and delivering long-term behaviour change as well as multiple, measurable impacts for people and the environment. This is the largest clean cooking programme of its kind in the world with operations in Rwanda, The Gambia and Sierra Leone. DelAgua exclusively targets rural communities who are otherwise unable to afford the transition to clean cooking. Following this success, DelAgua is currently undergoing a significant expansion of our projects across sub-Saharan Africa, with the stated aim of increasing access to clean cooking for rural communities.

Role Profile:

The Data & Training Analyst (DTA) plays a pivotal role in the implementation of DelAgua’s programme in Uganda at the district level. Reporting to the Country Representative and working in close collaboration with the Programme Coordinator and Supply Chain Coordinator, the DTA will be responsible for the day-to-day management of data collection and training processes as part of the wider programme delivery team.

The successful candidate will have a demonstrable track record of managing data and training operations in a field-based environment and will be comfortable working across both the head office and distribution locations as operational requirements demand. The DTA will serve as the primary interface between the Country Representative and the team of Distribution Coordinators, ensuring the clear and timely communication of data collection and training assignments, tasks and priorities across the team.

Key Responsibilities:

Training & Staff Management:

  • Implement and regularly review the comprehensive training manual for all Distribution Coordinators and Assistant Distribution Coordinators.
  • Lead the recruitment, onboarding and training of community-based workers (CBWs), including the adaptation of training materials and the facilitation of Training of Trainers (ToT) sessions for senior field staff.
  • Provide indirect management and oversight to a team of Assistant Distribution Coordinators.
  • Monitor and regularly report on the effectiveness of training programmes, identifying areas for improvement and implementing corrective measures as required.
  • Provide support to the Senior Management Team on any other tasks as reasonably required.

Data Collection and Analysis:

  • Take ownership of and securely manage all data collection forms used within allocated distribution locations in Uganda, including training evaluations, distribution records, and household visit data.
  • Plan and implement the household visit data collection process across assigned operational areas, ensuring data is collected accurately, on time and to a consistently high standard.
  • Oversee and maintain responsibility for all smartphones used by DelAgua staff and community-based workers within assigned implementation areas, ensuring devices are operational, accounted for, and used in accordance with company protocols.
  • Analyse field data on an ongoing basis, mapping progress against programme targets and delivering regular, actionable management updates to the Country Representative and Senior Management Team.
  • Develop and manage data quality tracking mechanisms – ensuring that data collected in the field meets minimum data quality standards as stipulated in SoPs
  • Contribute to fostering a culture of data-driven decision making within the in-country team by supporting the Programme Coordinator in the distribution planning process, including beneficiary name collection, household mapping, and microplanning activities.
  • Work closely with the HQ data collection and management team to implement and maintain consistent data processes across Uganda operations.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • A minimum of 4 years’ experience in data management, monitoring and evaluation, or a related field.
  • Demonstrable experience designing and delivering training programmes for staff, volunteers, and community members in data collection activities.
  • Proven experience using mobile data collection applications.
  • Full proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite.
  • Strong data analysis skills, with the ability to interpret field data.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English, with the ability to present complex data clearly to a range of audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage competing priorities while contributing within a team environment.
  • Proven ability to deliver accurate work to strict deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong organisational skills, with a demonstrated ability managing multiple workstreams simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated experience managing and developing a team.
  • Bachelor’s degree in data Analytics; Statistics or a related technical field; a Higher National Diploma in mathematics or a related field will be considered where accompanied by relevant experience.
