Company Description

Busitema University is a prominent public university in Uganda, established in 2007 by a statutory instrument. It is unique for its “multi-campus” model, with its main campus located at Busitema along the Jinja-Tororo highway. The university was specifically founded to focus on science, technology, and innovation, taking over the former National College of Agricultural Mechanization to address the country’s need for technical expertise in agriculture and engineering.
The institution is spread across six operational campuses in Eastern Uganda, each specializing in distinct academic fields. For instance, the Busitema Campus focuses on Engineering and Technology, while the Arapai Campus in Soroti is the hub for Agriculture and Animal Sciences. Other campuses include Mbale for Health Sciences, Namasagali for Natural Resource Management, Pallisa for Business and Management, and Nagongera for Science and Education. This distribution allows the university to provide specialized training that is directly relevant to the local economies and resources of the surrounding regions.
Busitema University is highly regarded for its practical approach to education, particularly in the fields of irrigation engineering, textile engineering, and medicine. It has been at the forefront of research in renewable energy and climate-smart agriculture, often collaborating with international research bodies and the Ugandan government. Under the current leadership of Vice-Chancellor Professor Paul Waako, the university continues to expand its graduate programs and research capacity, aiming to produce highly skilled professionals capable of driving Uganda’s industrialization and socio-economic transformation.
