ABOUT UETCL

Uganda Electricity Transmission Company Limited (UETCL) is a Public Limited Company fully owned by the Government of the Republic of Uganda and holds the following operational licences:

  • System Operator
  • Operation of the High Voltage Transmission Grid
  • Bulk Power Supply
  • Import and Export of Power
  • Public Infrastructure Provider (for ownership and operation of the Optic Fibre)

JOB PURPOSE

To undertake real-time supervision of power system operations with a focus on:

  • Generation resource optimization
  • Grid reliability
  • Outage management
  • Quality of power supply
  • Operational safety
KEY RESULT AREAS
  • Supervision of real-time demand and supply balance (system frequency maintained within ±1% of nominal).
  • Maintenance of system voltages within ±10% of nominal.
  • Implementation of planned outages and management of forced outages, including operational safety.
  • Compilation of outage statistics.
  • Optimal dispatch of available generation from cascaded hydropower plants.
PERSON SPECIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND COMPETENCIES
Qualifications
  • Higher Diploma in Electrical Engineering.
Experience
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience.
  • Experience in the use of SCADA systems for power system operations is an added advantage.
Competencies
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Team player.
  • Customer relations skills.
  • Computer skills.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT AND REMUNERATION
  • The successful candidate will be offered a contract subject to the Ministry of Public Service Guidelines on the Rationalization Exercise of Government Institutions.
