Job Description
The Assistant Accountant is a full-time in-country position supporting both sourcing and chocolate operations in Uganda reporting directly to the Accountant.

Key Roles and Responsibilities: 

  • Support and oversee the work of 4-5 Accounts Assistants (training, weekly work plans for task management, performance management, review and approval of work prior to finalization, guidance and instruction and approval of schedules)
  • Coordination of 2 week and 4 week cash requirements planning at each branch
  • Review payments accountability prior to approval
  • Organize, submit and setup bank payments for approval
  • Complete entry and expense categorization for all transactions in Odoo
  • Complete Bank and Inventory (raw materials, packaging, finished goods, WIP) reconciliations
  • Ensure operational team members complete their Odoo entries on daily basis for weekly reconciliation
  • BOL and MM payment setup, review and approval as needed
  • Support AA to reconcile retail sales and inventory, produce weekly and monthly reports
  • Support AAs to organize and follow-up on AR/AP
  • Support completion of annual audit
  • Carry out routine audit of inventories and expenses
  • Support tracking and reporting for grants, loans, investors, partners and donors

Key Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree from reputable university in related field
  • CPA or ACCA
  • 4+ years’ experience working and living in Africa or similar context
  • Knowledge of or previous experience in agriculture, agronomy, or agro-processing
  • Experience in finance, accounting, or bookkeeping
  • High level of organizational skills
  • Ability and willingness to learn and problem-solve independently (required)
  • Willingness to travel to and work in rural areas
  • Patience and sense of humor
