Company Description
The Uganda Institute of Information and Communications Technology (UICT) is the premier public tertiary institution in Uganda specializing in skills-based, middle-level digital skilling and technical education. Founded in 2000 by the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC), the institute succeeded the former East African Posts and Telecommunications Regional Training School which originally opened in 1965. Fully accredited by the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE), UICT operates directly under the oversight of the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance. The institution operates its main academic campus and hosting grounds for the National ICT Innovation Hub at Plot 9-21 Port Bell Road in Nakawa, situated directly opposite Capital Shoppers Nakawa.
The primary mandate of the academy focuses on bridging technical human capital gaps through highly practical, hands-on TVET education rather than purely theoretical degrees. As the officially designated Digital Transformation Centre (DTC) under the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) initiative, the institute coordinates over 95 training sub-stations across Uganda to push digital inclusion down to rural areas. Backed by state-of-the-art laboratory computing testbeds and advanced mixed-reality equipment, the facility runs dedicated multi-disciplinary innovations programs that systematically transform student graduation academic projects into scalable, market-ready corporate solutions.
To secure admission into UICT’s extensive academic paths, prospective senior-six leavers, working professionals, and technical researchers can utilize the simplified online application gateway at
https://uict.ac.ug. The campus features a dedicated on-site student hostel facility, which charges an affordable residential fee of UGX 600,000 per semester to ease student living logistics. For direct, immediate assistance regarding application statuses, course availability, or standard admission timelines, applicants can engage directly with the registrar’s customer response desks by dialing +256 762 944 050 or +256 762 944 036.To embrace modern e-governance and ensure open institutional communication, the institute routes all generic administrative, corporate partnership, and research inquiries through its central email at
info@uict.ac.ug. The facility also plays a vital role in national development by hosting specialized innovation boot camps and startup incubation centers that help tech-driven youth commercialize their applications. Operating under strict public standards, the national center maintains that all its formal application guidelines and primary structural fees remains fully transparent to the public. The primary academic programs, professional certifications, and institutional services offered by UICT include:
-
- National Diploma Programs: Specialized 2-year technical tracks including Software Engineering (DSWE), Computer Science (DCS), and Electrical & Electronics Engineering (DEEE).
- Professional Short Courses: Industry-recognized certifications such as Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), Python Programming, Cyber Security, and Digital Marketing.
- National ICT Innovation Hub: Incubation workspaces, mentorship programs, and commercialization support for early-stage Ugandan tech startups.
