Job Summary

 

The Foreman – Earthworks will be responsible for supervising and coordinating earthworks activities to ensure safe, efficient, and quality execution of works in line with approved drawings, specifications, project schedules, and HSEQ requirements.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Supervise earthworks activities including excavation, grading, embankment construction, backfilling, compaction, and drainage works.
  • Plan daily activities, allocate resources, and coordinate labour and equipment to meet project targets.
  • Interpret construction drawings, specifications, and survey information to ensure accurate execution of works.
  • Supervise site crews, operators, and subcontractors to ensure productivity and compliance with work requirements.
  • Coordinate the use and operation of earthmoving equipment and report equipment issues when required.
  • Monitor quality of earthworks, including levels, compaction, and compliance with project specifications.
  • Ensure compliance with Health, Safety, Environment, and Quality (HSEQ) standards and conduct toolbox talks.
  • Coordinate with engineers, surveyors, quality personnel, and other stakeholders to support project delivery.
  • Maintain daily records of work progress, labour, equipment usage, and site activities.
  • Identify site challenges, implement corrective actions, and support timely completion of project activities.

 

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience.

 

  • Diploma in Civil Engineering, Construction, or related field
  • Minimum of 3–5 years’ experience in earthworks, excavation, grading, and compaction works.
  • Experience supervising construction crews and heavy equipment operations.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and survey data.
  • Knowledge of construction safety and quality requirements.
  • Experience in infrastructure, oil & gas, or large civil construction projects is an added advantage.
  • Good knowledge of earthworks construction methods.
  • Strong leadership and team supervision skills.
  • Good communication and problem-solving skills.
