The Need
For 25 years, IJM has pioneered the work to protect vulnerable people from violence. As we grow to expand our impact to protect 500 million people globally from violence by 2030, we are seeking to recruit an ADVOCACY ASSOCIATE- TORORO.
Job Summary: The Advocacy associate sustains and advances survivor leadership globally by coordinating strategic initiatives, advising cross-regional teams and disseminating trauma-informed resources. This role supports the integration of survivor voices into programming and public engagement, ensuring alignment with organizational strategy and survivor empowerment goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Examine and reconcile regional survivor group strategies with the Global Survivor Network framework to ensure consistent implementation and impact.
- Conduct and oversee the rollout of Advocacy & Power of Story workshops, ensuring trauma-informed delivery and cross-cultural relevance.
- Appraise and advise on the development of survivor leadership tools and KPIs, incorporating feedback from global teams to enhance usability and effectiveness.
- Identify and recommend professional development opportunities for survivor leaders, supporting sustained engagement and growth.
- Compare, determine, and disseminate best practices across IJM teams to elevate survivor leadership and align with global advocacy.
Requirements
- Demonstrated ability to coordinate complex projects across global teams, with strong prioritization and organizational skills to ensure timely and effective delivery.
- Proficiency in trauma-informed approaches and cross-cultural communication, enabling respectful and empowering engagement with survivors of violence.
- Skilled in advising and collaborating with diverse stakeholders to align strategies, reconcile priorities, and sustain survivor-led initiatives.
- Capable of examining and appraising program tools and resources, incorporating feedback to improve usability and impact across regional contexts.
- Proficient in disseminating information and conducting workshops, with the ability to explain concepts clearly and facilitate learning in multicultural environments.
Education & Experience
- A bachelor’s degree in social work, counseling, community psychology or related field.
- A minimum of four (4) years’ experience in social work, counseling, including working with survivors of sexual violence or other traumatic experiences. Experience working with child and women survivors of violence preferred.
- Experience establishing networks and partnering with social service providers.
- Demonstrable experience, technical knowledge of trauma and application of trauma-informed approaches within case management and/or clinical interventions.
- Experience in coaching and training.
- Experience working with the Uganda criminal justice system.
- Fluency in the English language both written and spoken is mandatory. Working knowledge of local languages in the Tororo preferred.
Critical Qualities
- Mature Christian faith as defined by the Apostles’ Creed.
- Working knowledge of Gender Based Violence
- Ability to work with survivors of Intimate Partner Violence and Child Sexual Abuse
- Knowledge of social service programming
- Ability to use tools for monitoring and evaluation and data analysis.
- Working knowledge of justice processes
- Ability to form and maintain partnerships
- Knowledge of the problem-solving process in case management
