Company Description

Clarke International University (CIU) is a leading private university headquartered in Kampala, Uganda, with its main campus located along Kawagga Close in Bukasa-Muyenga. Founded in 2005 by prominent physician and philanthropist Dr. Ian Clarke as the International Health Sciences University, it initially launched as a dedicated nursing school to transform clinical education. The institution subsequently attained a formal operating license from the National Council for Higher Education in 2008 and rebranded to its current name in 2018 to support a much broader academic scope
The university structures its academic programs across four main operational faculties: the School of Nursing and Midwifery, the Institute of Public Health and Management, the Institute of Allied Health Sciences, and the School of Business and Applied Technology. This multidisciplinary framework enables the non-residential institution to deliver a wide array of certificate, diploma, bachelor’s, and master’s degree courses. By combining traditional health fields with digital technology, business management, and practical research, the curriculum focuses heavily on cultivating ethical, innovative, and job-ready professionals
A major institutional milestone was achieved in July 2025 when the President of Uganda officially granted CIU a prestigious university charter. This full government accreditation provides the institution with maximum academic autonomy, qualifies its students for national higher education funding schemes, and opens up strategic pathways for advanced doctoral training. Managed under the current executive leadership of Vice Chancellor Professor Rose Clarke Nanyonga, the campus serves as a highly active hub for cross-border research partnerships and public policy development across East Africa.
