Planning for Tomorrow Youth Organisation (P4T) is a prominent refugee-led, community-based non-profit organization headquartered in the Kikuube District of Uganda. Established in 2007 by youth refugees fleeing conflict in neighboring countries like the Democratic Republic of Congo and Sudan, the organization was legally registered in 2013. Operating primarily within the Kyangwali Refugee Settlement, P4T adheres firmly to the core humanitarian guiding principle, “There is Nothing for us without us,” ensuring that those who experience displacement firsthand lead the development and execution of local solutions.
The organization operates holistically across four primary thematic pillars: education, health, livelihoods, and community-based protection. Under its education framework, P4T runs nursery, primary, and secondary schools utilizing an interactive, play-based learning approach that benefits around 1,000 children annually. In addition, its healthcare initiatives provide vital medical missions, community wellness education, and mental health counseling services to thousands of underserved individuals.
To empower vulnerable community members toward economic self-reliance, P4T places a heavy emphasis on vocational skills and entrepreneurship. Through the P4T Vocational Skills Training Center, youth and women receive practical instruction in highly marketable trades such as carpentry, tailoring, hairdressing, and computer studies. Coupled with business mentorship and seed capital opportunities, these programs allow refugees and local host communities to break cycles of systemic aid dependency and establish secure, local income streams.
Complementing these efforts, P4T’s community-based protection and advocacy branch functions as a lifeline for the settlement’s most marginalized demographics, including orphans, elderly residents, and survivors of gender-based violence. Backed by international collaborators like The Altenburg Foundation and ECHO, the organization successfully manages critical protection cases, constructs clean water wells, and dispenses emergency food relief. Through this localized, comprehensive methodology, P4T impacts over 10,000 lives each year while promoting lasting communal resilience.
