Job Description
The purpose of the role is to provide quality underwriting and pension administration outcomes for the Commercial/Personal lines underwriting function through effectively maintaining underwriting standards and providing quality client, Agency and broker service.
To Administer and control the company’s underwriting operations assessing and accepting risks, supporting business acquisition and retention, administering pension scheme member records and benefits, and delivering timely and professional service to internal and external stakeholders to ensure profitable, business & product development, quality and timely service delivery, while supporting the implementation of the Company’s overall business objectives.
Key Tasks And Responsibilities
- Assess and evaluate risks based on proposal forms, medical reports, financial information and other relevant documentation in accordance with underwriting guidelines and authority limits.
- Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory requirements, underwriting policies, treaty conditions and internal procedures.
- Provide timely and professional responses to customer, member, employer and stakeholder queries and complaints.
- Prepare quotations, deeds of adherences and underwriting terms accurately and within agreed timelines to support business acquisition and retention.
- Prepare, review, issue policies and underwriting documents in line with agreed terms and delegated authority.
- Capture and maintain accurate policy and underwriting information in the system and ensure contributions are allocated to the correct accounts.
- Processing and reconciling employer and employee contributions and resolving data or payment discrepancies.
- Maintaining accurate and up-to-date member information and ensuring data integrity.
- Preparing member statements, schedules, reports, and other scheme documentation.
- Responding to member, employer, trustee, and other stakeholder queries professionally and promptly.
- Prepare underwriting documentation and ensure all information required for acceptance and placement of risks is available.
- Processing benefit claims and ensuring payments are made accurately and within agreed timelines.
- Ensuring pension administration activities comply with scheme rules, scheme policies, and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Supporting audits, reconciliations, regulatory inspections, and preparation of required reports.
- Liaising with trustees, custodians, fund managers, employers, regulators, and other service providers.
- Maintaining confidentiality and ensuring proper handling of sensitive member and scheme information.
- Supporting the onboarding of new members and participating employers.
- Participate in process improvement, system enhancement and implementation initiatives as required.
- Identify administration, underwriting, data and system-related issues and recommend improvements to enhance efficiency, accuracy and customer experience.
- Perform any other duties commensurate with the level and responsibilities of the position.
ANTI-MONEY LAUNDERING (AML) EXPECTATION
The incumbent will be responsible for ensuring adherence to, implementation of, and adoption of Compliance, Anti-Money Laundering (AML), and Sanctions-related policies, procedures, and process requirements within Old Mutual and its subsidiaries. This includes execution of customer due diligence processes, ensuring compliance with Know-Your-Customer (KYC) standards, conducting ongoing and enhanced due diligence, and maintaining data quality. Additionally, the role involves identifying and monitoring potential AML, Sanctions, or Compliance breaches and unusual activities, and escalating these concerns to the Risk and Compliance Office for further action.
EDUCATION
University degree Business Administration, Finance, Actuarial Science & Dip, CII
Experience
Minimum of five (5) years’ relevant experience in Life Assurance Underwriting and Pension Administration.
