Job Description

Job Summary:

The FHI 360 Office Driver performs work in the operation of a vehicle to assure safe transportation of staff and other clients to and from various destinations in Uganda. Assists clients during entry and exit from vehicles as necessary and other courtesies. Assumes responsibility for care and maintenance of the vehicle; washes exterior and cleans interior; and ensures maintenance and repair of the vehicle.

Accountabilities:

 

  • Transport FHI 360 STRIDES Country Office staff, consultants, and visitors to designated approved locations and maintains professional conduct when interacting with passengers onboard.
  • Maintains accurate and up-to-date vehicle logbooks, mileage records, fuel records, trip authorizations, and daily movement schedules.
  • Conducts daily pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections and promptly reports mechanical defects, damage, or safety concerns to the supervisor.
  • Monitors and records fuel consumption and mileage, ensuring proper accountability and reporting of fuel usage.
  • Coordinates with the Fleet/Logistics team for scheduled preventive and day -to- day vehicle maintenance, servicing, repairs, inspections, and replacement of worn-out parts.
  • Reports vehicle accidents, incidents, breakdowns, and security concerns immediately to the relevant supervisor and completes the required documentation.
  • Ensures all required documents with the vehicle are in order and up to date regarding vehicle insurance, vehicle logs, and necessary spare parts.
  • Assists with loading, securing, transporting, and delivering supplies, equipment, documents, and other official materials while ensuring proper accountability.
  • Monitors vehicle insurance, registration, Motor Third Party (MTP), inspection, and other statutory requirements, and alerts the Fleet/Logistics team before expiry.
  • Plans route and requirements based on schedule or ad-hoc requests by the office.
  • Ensures passengers adhere to all road safety regulations.
  • Fulfills special requests by picking up and delivering items as directed and running errands.
  • May provide protection for clients in locations deemed high risk.
  • Performs any other logistics, transport, fleet, or administrative duties assigned by the supervisor in support of FHI 360 programme operations.

Supervision Given/Received:

 

  • General supervision and instructions given for routine work and detailed instructions with periodic work review given for new activities or special assignments.
  • Contacts are typically with individuals or authorized personnel using the office vehicle.
  • Contacts involve office personnel or other authorized individuals

Education:

 

  • High School Diploma/Uganda Advance Education Certificate (UACE)

Experience:

 

  • 5 years of experience in driving a project vehicle, preferably for donor funded project.
  • Must have a defensive driving certificate, a valid driving license and a clean driving record.
  • Demonstrates defensive driving techniques and exercises sound judgment when operating vehicles under challenging road, weather, traffic, or security conditions.
  • Experience in the operation of large vehicles; or an equivalent combination of experience and training.

Typical Physical Demands:

 

  • Frequent driving trips with authorized personnel.
  • Ability to spend long hours driving the office vehicle.
  • Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to lift/move up to 5 lbs.

Technology to be Used:

 

  • Personal Computer/Laptop, Microsoft applications (i.e., Office 365, SharePoint, Skype/Zoom/Teams), cell phone/mobile technology, and standard office equipment.

Travel Requirements:

 

  • Ability to drive domestically on a daily basis.

The expected hiring salary range for this role is UGX 16,000,000 – 20,000,000 for annual basic salary.
