Job Description

Description

Are you passionate about making a difference, bringing fresh ideas and contributing your skills to meaningful work? This could be your opportunity.

Hive Colab is recruiting a team to deliver the Youth Startup Academy (YSA 2.0), which incubates entrepreneurs in Uganda’s creative sector. YSA 2.0 is delivered in partnership with the International Trade Centre (ITC) under the project “Uganda: Enhancing Skills and Enabling  Financial Inclusion for Young Women in the Creative Economy”, known as the CREATE Programme.

The purpose of YSA 2.0 is to strengthen the startup ecosystem for young entrepreneurs under the age of 35 in Uganda by providing comprehensive incubation services, networking opportunities and access to finance. Over the life of the project, 1,000 entrepreneurs will move through three incubation stages, from bootcamp to classroom training to incubation, with 450 progressing to the second stage and 180 to the third. The programme combines training, mentorship, grants (including film accelerator grants), pitch events and ecosystem engagement, delivered through more than 20 regional training events across Uganda.

We invite qualified, motivated and results-oriented individuals to apply for the project roles below. We are looking for professionals who demonstrate strong technical expertise, a collaborative spirit, integrity and a commitment to delivering results.

Safeguarding and Equal Opportunities Statement

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and adults at risk. All employees are expected to share this commitment and follow our safeguarding policies and procedures.

The successful candidate will be required to complete appropriate pre-employment checks, which may include references, criminal record checks where legally permitted, and verification of relevant qualifications and employment history. Checks will be proportionate to the role and comply with applicable legislation.

Application deadline: Thursday, 5 November 2026

The Communications Officer is responsible for ensuring strong visibility, strategic positioning, and clear communication of the project’s activities, outcomes, and impact. The role ensures that YSA 2.0 is consistently communicated to stakeholders, beneficiaries, and the public in alignment with ITC guidelines and donor visibility requirements.

Given the scale of the programme, multiple regions, high number of beneficiaries, and the importance of demonstrating impact, this role is critical to capturing the programme story, strengthening stakeholder engagement, and enhancing the credibility and visibility of the project.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive communication and visibility strategy aligned to project objectives and donor requirements.
  • Manage all communication channels, including social media platforms, websites, newsletters, and email communications.
  • Document all key project activities, including bootcamps, trainings, mentorship sessions, pitch events, and graduation ceremonies.
  • Capture and develop high-quality content, including success stories, case studies, testimonials, photos, and videos.
  • Ensure consistent branding and adherence to ITC and donor communication and visibility guidelines across all materials.
  • Support promotion of recruitment campaigns to attract high-quality entrepreneurs into the programme.
  • Develop communication materials such as banners, flyers, brochures, and digital assets for project activities.
  • Coordinate media engagement, including press releases, interviews, and coverage of key events.
  • Work closely with the M&E Lead to translate data and results into compelling impact narratives.
  • Support the Project Lead and team in preparing communication inputs for donor reports and stakeholder updates.
  • Maintain a repository of all communication assets, documentation, and media content.
  • Ensure timely dissemination of information on opportunities, events, and updates to beneficiaries and stakeholders.
  • Support visibility of partners and stakeholders, ensuring appropriate recognition and alignment with partnership agreements.

Relevant Experience

  • At least 2–3 years of relevant experience in communications, public relations, digital marketing, journalism, media engagement, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and implementing communication strategies, content plans, and visibility campaigns.
  • Proven ability to create high-quality communication materials, including success stories, case studies, newsletters, social media content, press releases, flyers, brochures, and event reports.
  • Experience managing social media platforms, websites, email communications, and other digital communication channels.
  • Demonstrated experience documenting project activities through photography, videography, interviews, testimonials, and written reports.
  • Experience communicating programme results and translating technical information or monitoring data into clear, engaging stories for different audiences.
  • Familiarity with donor branding, visibility, acknowledgement, and communication requirements.
  • Experience supporting stakeholder engagement, media relations, recruitment campaigns, and public events.
  • Proficiency in graphic design, video editing, and content creation tools such as Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar applications is desirable.
  • Experience communicating entrepreneurship, youth empowerment, creative industries, innovation, or development programmes is an added advantage.

Key Deliverables and Reporting

  • Project communication and visibility strategy aligned to donor guidelines.
  • Regular social media content and engagement reports showing reach and interaction.
  • Documentation of all major project activities, including photos, videos, and written summaries.
  • Success stories, case studies, and impact narratives highlighting programme outcomes.
  • Communication materials, including banners, flyers, brochures, and digital content.
  • Media coverage reports, including press mentions, interviews, and publications.
  • Monthly or periodic newsletters and stakeholder updates.
  • Inputs into quarterly narrative reports, including communication outputs and visibility metrics.
  • Repository of communication assets organised and accessible for reporting and future use.
  • Event communication reports for bootcamps, trainings, pitch events, and graduations.

Why This Role Is Critical
