Company Description

The Africa Climate Collaborative is a multi-institutional higher education partnership designed to strengthen the continent’s response to climate change. Running from 2025 to 2033, the initiative is supported by a major investment from the Mastercard Foundation. It operates through a consortium of leading academic institutions, including Makerere University in Uganda, the University of Ghana, the University of Cape Town in South Africa, and the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom.
The primary goal of the collaborative is to develop a critical mass of African thought leaders, researchers, and innovators capable of driving transitions toward green, climate-resilient economies. To achieve this, the program offers fully funded scholarships for outstanding young African scholars at the Master’s, PhD, and Postdoctoral levels. Beyond formal academic pathways, the collaborative also emphasizes practical workforce development by equipping young people with specialized skills in green entrepreneurship and sustainable enterprise management.
To ensure that the solutions generated are equitable and far-reaching, the program places a deliberate focus on inclusivity and social diversity. Recruitment and training actively prioritize applications from women, persons with disabilities, refugees, and individuals living in displaced or marginalized communities. By combining high-level academic research with on-the-ground youth empowerment, the program strives to generate homegrown, practical solutions to Africa’s most pressing environmental challenges.
