Company Description

Carrefour Uganda is one of the largest and most prominent premium retail supermarket chains in the country. Owned and operated under an exclusive franchise by the Dubai-based multinational conglomerate Majid Al Futtaim, Carrefour made its official entry into the Ugandan market in December 2019 by launching its foundational flagship branch at the Oasis Mall along Yusuf Lule Road in Kampala. The brand rapidly accelerated its regional footprint in late 2021 by successfully acquiring and taking over multiple hypermarkets and supermarket outlets previously operated by South Africa’s Shoprite retail group.
The franchise has established a strong, convenient presence across the Greater Kampala Metropolitan Area and Entebbe, currently managing seven strategically located full-service branches. Its premium hypermarket hub remains at Oasis Mall, complemented by extensive supermarket formats inside prominent lifestyle shopping centers including Acacia Mall (Kololo), Lugogo Mall, Arena Mall (Nsambya), Village Mall (Bugolobi), Metroplex Shopping Mall (Naalya), and Victoria Mall in Entebbe. The locations are systematically designed to provide an international, spacious shopping atmosphere paired with broad, secure parking amenities.
Carrefour Uganda is widely recognized for its immense product assortment and competitive, pocket-friendly pricing. Shelving over 100,000 distinct items, the stores stock everything from fresh regional farm produce, a dedicated gourmet butcher counter, and in-house freshly baked goods to home electronics, stationery, toiletries, and an array of international wines and spirits. The chain places a heavy corporate emphasis on socioeconomic integration, sourcing over 90% of its goods from local Ugandan suppliers and farmers, while creating direct employment opportunities for hundreds of local youth.
