Company Description
CorpsAfrica is a Pan-African, youth-led organization that recruits and trains university-educated Africans to serve in remote, under-resourced rural communities within their own countries. Modeled after the Peace Corps, it was founded in 2011 by former Peace Corps volunteer Liz Fanning to shift Africa’s development from external aid reliance to local empowerment.
Volunteers undergo rigorous training in Human-Centered Design and Asset-Based Community Development. They live and work alongside local residents for one year, immersing themselves in the culture without a preconceived agenda to build trust and understand the community’s highest priority needs.
Rather than choosing or managing projects themselves, volunteers facilitate community meetings to help residents identify their own challenges. Together, they design and launch small-scale, high-impact solutions. These community-led projects typically focus on education, healthcare, agriculture, and small business development.
The initiative aims to address both youth unemployment and rural poverty simultaneously. By completing service, volunteers gain practical field experience and leadership skills, while communities receive support in building resilience, ensuring sustainable impact long after the volunteer’s deployment has ended.
