Company Description
Food for the Hungry (FH) Uganda is a Christian humanitarian organization that has been operating in the country since 1988. Its primary mission is to end all forms of human poverty by working alongside vulnerable communities, including refugees and host populations, to move them from extreme poverty toward self-sustainability. The organization addresses both physical and spiritual needs through holistic development programs that focus on long-term impact rather than just temporary relief.
In Uganda, FH implements a wide range of integrated programs covering health, nutrition, education, and livelihoods. Their health initiatives include community-based nutrition training for mothers and children, as well as HIV/AIDS prevention and care. In the education sector, the organization supports schools by constructing classrooms and latrines, providing school supplies, and training teachers. Additionally, they empower families through agricultural training in advanced farming techniques, livestock distributions, and the establishment of community savings and loan groups.
Beyond direct community development, Food for the Hungry Uganda is actively involved in disaster relief and infrastructure support. Their historical work includes significant water and sanitation projects—such as drilling boreholes and installing water systems—initially launched in partnership with UNICEF in northern Uganda. Today, FH continues to serve over a million people across various districts, utilizing context-specific solutions in disaster risk reduction and advocacy to ensure that even the most marginalized communities have the resources to flourish
