Company Description
Jinja City is a vibrant urban center in Eastern Uganda, famously known as the “Stone City” and the “Adventure Capital of East Africa.” Located at the historic source of the River Nile on the shores of Lake Victoria, it was officially elevated from a municipality to a city in July 2020. Its economy is built on a powerful mix of hydroelectric power generation, a resurgent industrial sector, and a booming tourism industry that draws visitors from across the globe for white-water rafting, bungee jumping, and boat cruises to the Nile’s origin.
The Jinja City Council serves as the local government authority responsible for the administration and strategic urban planning of the city’s two main divisions, Jinja North and Jinja South. Led by the City Mayor and the City Town Clerk, the council focuses on transforming Jinja into a modern, sustainable, and inclusive industrial city. Their core responsibilities include maintaining the city’s road infrastructure, managing public health through the Jinja Regional Referral Hospital and local health centers, and improving primary education to meet the needs of a rapidly growing metropolitan population.
The Jinja City Service Commission is the independent statutory body tasked with managing the human resource requirements of the city’s public service. Its primary mandate is to ensure that the city is served by a competent, ethical, and professional workforce through transparent recruitment, confirmation, and promotion processes. By upholding high standards of meritocracy and conducting regular disciplinary oversight, the Commission ensures that all city departments are equipped with the skilled personnel necessary to drive Jinja’s ambitious “Smart City” agenda and industrial redevelopment.
