Company Description

Kaberamaido District was established in 2001, following its separation from Soroti District as part of Uganda’s decentralization policy aimed at improving local governance and service delivery. The district underwent further administrative change in July 2019 when one of its counties, Kalaki, was elevated to district status. These changes reflect ongoing efforts to bring governance closer to the people and enhance socio-economic development at the local level.

Agriculture forms the backbone of Kaberamaido’s economy, making the district a critical contributor to food production in the Teso sub-region. Residents engage in both subsistence and commercial crop farming, cultivating staples such as millet, sorghum, maize, and groundnuts. This agricultural productivity not only supports household livelihoods but also supplies local and regional markets, strengthening food security across the area.

Cattle rearing remains a key economic activity in Kaberamaido, complementing crop agriculture. While livestock production was historically disrupted by raids from Karimojong pastoralists, the sector has gradually recovered and continues to support the local economy. Cattle serve as a source of income, nutrition, and cultural significance, underpinning agro-pastoral livelihoods and contributing to economic resilience within the district.
