Company Description
KIbinge Coffee Farmers’ Co-operative Society Ltd is a community-based agricultural organization located in the Kasese District of Western Uganda, specifically within the foothills of the Rwenzori Mountains. The co-operative was formed by local smallholder farmers to pool their resources and improve their collective bargaining power in the competitive coffee market. By focusing on the production of high-quality Arabica coffee, which thrives in the high altitudes and fertile soils of the region, the society helps its members transition from subsistence farming to more profitable commercial agriculture.
The primary mission of the society is to enhance the livelihoods of its members through value addition and direct market access. Instead of selling raw coffee cherries to middlemen at low prices, the co-operative organizes the collection, processing, and drying of the beans to meet international export standards. They provide their members with technical training on sustainable farming practices, such as organic fertilization and integrated pest management, which not only improves the quality of the coffee but also protects the delicate ecosystem of the Rwenzori slopes.
As an active participant in the Ugandan co-operative movement, Ibinge Coffee Farmers’ Co-operative serves as a vital support system for rural households. The society often facilitates access to essential farm inputs and provides small-scale financial services or credit facilities to help farmers cover costs during the planting season. By fostering a spirit of cooperation and shared ownership, the organization empowers the local community to build a resilient coffee industry that can withstand global price fluctuations and climate-related challenges.
- Coffee Processing: Managing centralized washing stations and drying facilities to ensure the consistent quality of Arabica coffee beans.
- Capacity Building: Conducting field schools and workshops to teach farmers modern agronomic practices and post-harvest handling techniques.

- Market Linkages: Identifying and securing partnerships with international buyers and fair-trade organizations to ensure better returns for farmers.
- Resource Mobilization: Bulk purchasing of high-quality seeds and tools to reduce the operational costs for individual cooperative members.
