Company Description
Kisoro District is one of the local governments established under Uganda’s decentralization policy of 1991. It is located in the extreme south-western part of Uganda and shares international borders with the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and the Republic of Rwanda. The district headquarters are situated in Kisoro Town within Kisoro Municipality.
The district is home to four main ethnic groups: the Bafumbira, Bakiga, Banyarwanda, and Batwa. This cultural diversity contributes to Kisoro’s rich social heritage and community life. Kisoro also holds national and international significance as a conservation area, being home to the endangered mountain gorillas found in Mgahinga National Park and Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.
Kisoro District is renowned for its exceptional natural beauty, characterized by the Muhabura volcanic mountains, hilly terrain, the winding Kabale–Kisoro road, Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, and the Echuya Bamboo Forest. These unique landscapes contribute to Uganda’s reputation as the “Pearl of Africa,” with Kisoro standing out as one of the most scenic regions in the country.
