Kyegegwa District lies in the western region of Uganda and forms part of the Tooro sub-region. It was created in 2009 after being carved out of Kyenjojo District. The district shares borders with Kibaale to the north, Kamwenge to the south, Kyenjojo to the west, and Mubende to the east. Its administrative headquarters are located in Kyegegwa Town. The district’s economy is predominantly agrarian, with farming activities such as maize, beans, bananas, coffee, and livestock keeping forming the backbone of household incomes. Kyegegwa is also known for hosting a significant refugee population, particularly in the Kyaka II Refugee Settlement, which has influenced both social services planning and local economic dynamics.

Kyegegwa District Local Government operates under Uganda’s decentralization framework, coordinating governance and service delivery across its sub-counties and town councils. The District Council formulates policies and approves development plans and budgets, while the technical departments implement programs in education, health, production and marketing, works, water, and community services. The Local Government plays a central role in infrastructure development, agricultural extension, and social service provision, while also working with central government agencies and development partners to improve living standards within the district.

The Kyegegwa District Service Commission is mandated to manage recruitment and human resource functions for the district public service. It is responsible for appointing, confirming, promoting, and disciplining staff in accordance with public service regulations. By ensuring merit-based recruitment and adherence to established procedures, the Commission strengthens administrative efficiency and supports the effective delivery of public services throughout the district.
