Company Description

The National Lotteries and Gaming Regulatory Board (NLGRB) is a corporate government body mandated to license, regulate, and supervise all lotteries, gaming, betting, and casino operations in Uganda. Established under the Lotteries and Gaming Act, 2016 (Cap 334), the board ensures that the country’s fast-growing commercial gambling sector operates in a fair, transparent, and legally compliant manner. 
The primary functions of the NLGRB statutory mandate include issuing operational licenses to qualified companies, inspecting premises, and approving gaming hardware and software. Furthermore, the board is responsible for tracking and collecting gaming taxes from operators and winners alike. This oversight includes enforcing revenue collection measures like the 30% harmonized gaming tax rate passed by the Ugandan parliament. 
Protecting citizens from the adverse socio-economic effects of gambling is another core pillar of the board’s responsibilities. The NLGRB Responsible Gaming team proactively conducts nationwide awareness campaigns to prevent underage gambling, provides mental health partner support for gambling addiction, and offers formal tools like Self-Exclusion Forms for vulnerable players. 
To effectively police the modern digital gambling landscape, the agency utilizes advanced systems like the National Central Electronic Monitoring System (NCEMS) to monitor betting transactions in real-time. This technological tracking allows the board to protect consumers from fraudulent operators, curb tax evasion, and shut down illegal offline or online platforms.
