Company Description

Nyaka Global is a highly impactful, locally-led non-governmental organization (NGO) dedicated to uplifting orphaned and vulnerable children (OVC) and their families in rural Southwestern Uganda. Founded in 2001 by CNN Hero Twesigye Jackson Kaguri, the organization originated as a modest, two-room schoolhouse built to educate 55 children who had lost their parents to the HIV/AIDS epidemic. Over the decades, it has evolved into a internationally acclaimed, holistic development model that addresses the root causes of systemic poverty, health crises, and social inequality. 
The cornerstone of Nyaka Global‘s strategy is its unique “social-ecological” framework, which wraps an entire community-based support system around each child. Rather than focusing solely on classroom lessons, the organization provides fully funded education spanning from nursery to secondary levels across three established schools. This academic pillar is seamlessly integrated with multi-generational support networks, community libraries, clean water systems, and dedicated health programs that have successfully delivered free medical services to over 300,000 community members. 
A remarkably distinctive element of Nyaka’s model is its Grandmother Program, which empowers the elderly matriarchs left to raise orphaned children. Organizing more than 23,000 grandmothers into 254 local self-help groups, the NGO provides them with financial literacy, housing assistance, and microloans. Backed by high-profile platforms like the Clinton Global Initiative, Nyaka has committed to an ambitious economic expansion plan aimed at scaling its microfinance systems across 146 districts in Uganda to economically empower 1.4 million women
