Company Description

Nyakasura School is a prestigious co-educational boarding middle and high school located in Fort Portal City, Kabarole District, within the Western Region of Uganda. Nestled in the scenic foothills of the Rwenzori Mountains, the institution provides both Ordinary and Advanced Level secondary education. Founded on Christian values under the Church of Uganda, the school operates under the motto “To Minister and not to be Ministered Unto,” placing a strong emphasis on leadership, integrity, and civic responsibility.
The school holds a historic legacy, having celebrated its landmark 100-year centenary anniversary in March 2026. It was established in 1926 by Lieutenant Commander Ernest Ebohard Calwell, a retired Scottish naval officer and former teacher at King’s College Budo, who secured land from Rukirabasaija Daudi Kasagama Kyebambe III, the Omukama of Tooro. Long before modern educational reforms, Nyakasura pioneered skills-driven, learner-centered project work and local innovations, becoming the first school in Uganda to build a swimming pool and generate its own electricity from a small self-built dam.
A defining and unique characteristic of the institution is its strict preservation of its Scottish heritage, particularly reflected in its official school uniform. Unlike any other mainstream school in the region, O-Level boys at Nyakasura wear traditional khaki Scottish kilts paired with a sporran, a red-and-white striped belt, and red leg warmers over their stockings. The school has historically leveraged this holistic environment to achieve national excellence in co-curricular fields like cricket, football, and competitive debate, while producing highly prominent Ugandan statesmen, legal minds, and entrepreneurs. The structural organization, leadership, and student-led initiatives driving the centenarian institution include:
  • Executive Leadership: Managed under the guidance of Headmaster Rev. Dr. Richardson E.B. Balinda, who has steered the school’s modern academic and infrastructure expansion.
  • Academic Divisions: Comprises comprehensive teaching departments covering both traditional sciences and arts, alongside vocational fields like ICT and agribusiness.
  • National Debate Trophies: Maintains a highly distinguished debate society that recently won the Uganda Speech and Debate Champions League. [1, 2]
  • Laudato Si Environmental Club: Coordinates proactive climate-smart actions, such as maintaining fruit tree nursery beds and promoting local sustainability projects.
  • Notable Alumni Network: Features distinguished historical figures including Omukama Patrick Matthew Olimi III, Gen. David Tinyefuza, and industrialist Patrick Bitature
