Company Description

Posta Uganda, officially trading as Uganda Post Limited (UPL), is the nation’s primary postal and logistics provider, established in its current form in 1998. Wholly owned by the government, it operates a vast network of over 300 service outlets that reach down to the sub-county level, ensuring that even remote rural communities have access to essential communication channels. Its core mission is to provide affordable, reliable, and accessible postal services that contribute to Uganda’s socio-economic development, evolving from a traditional letter carrier into a modern hub for logistics and e-commerce.
The management and operational strategy of Posta Uganda are currently centered on a major digital transformation aimed at turning post offices into one-stop centers for government services. Under the leadership of the Managing Director, James Arinaitwe, the organization is renovating its General Post Office in Kampala to serve as a regional service center where citizens can apply for national IDs, driving licenses, and passports. This strategic shift is designed to diversify revenue streams beyond traditional mail, integrating financial services like the Eurogiro platform for local and international money transfers alongside a dedicated “Post Bus” for affordable public transport.
The technical and innovative arm of Posta Uganda has introduced several digital solutions to meet the demands of the modern era, most notably the “e-Posta” platform. This includes the launch of virtual and electronic postal addresses, which allow users to receive real-time notifications via SMS and email when mail or parcels arrive. Furthermore, the company has partnered with local logistics players to offer door-to-door delivery and specialized tracking for online purchases. By embracing the Fourth Industrial Revolution through these e-services, Posta Uganda remains a critical infrastructure partner, bridging the physical and digital divide for businesses and individuals nationwide.
