Company Description

The Te-Kworo Foundation is a community-based organization dedicated to empowering vulnerable girls, women, and families in Northern Uganda. Founded in 2002 by Alice Achan, the initiative began as a response to the devastating impact of the Lord’s Resistance Army conflict, specifically focusing on the rehabilitation of teenage survivors of abduction and violence. The name “Te-Kworo” translates to “under the kworo tree” in the Acholi Lwo language, signifying the symbolic location where the first meetings were held to provide counseling and hope to those displaced by war.
A major pillar of the foundation’s work is its commitment to education through the operation of three boarding schools located in the Pader, Kitgum, and Nwoya districts. These institutions, including Kworo High School, offer a safe environment for thousands of girls who are often excluded from mainstream education due to poverty, early pregnancy, or orphanhood. The foundation provides specialized curricula and on-site childcare facilities, allowing young mothers to pursue academic studies and vocational training in fields like tailoring and hairdressing while their babies are safely cared for.
In addition to education, the Te-Kworo Foundation provides critical healthcare services to over 300,000 people in the region through its Medical and Maternal Health Clinic. This facility delivers life-saving care, including safe births, vaccinations, and emergency ambulance services to reach remote communities. To further address the high rates of maternal and infant mortality in Northern Uganda, the foundation is currently expanding its reach by constructing the Kworo Sonic Healthcare Foundation Hospital in Agago District, which is designed to transform health outcomes for hundreds of thousands of residents.
