Company Description
Teach For Uganda (TFU) is a locally-rooted, non-profit organization established in 2016 that operates as part of the global Teach For All network. Its primary mission is to address educational inequity in Uganda by ensuring that all children, regardless of their socio-economic status, have access to a quality and equitable education. TFU focuses on transforming the education ecosystem by nurturing a movement of leaders committed to driving systemic change both within and outside the classroom.
The organization’s flagship initiative is a rigorous two-year Teaching As Leadership Fellowship. TFU recruits and trains Uganda’s top university graduates and young professionals from diverse academic backgrounds to serve as full-time teachers in high-need, low-income government schools, primarily focusing on primary one to primary three. These “fellows” are equipped with pedagogical and leadership skills through intensive training and ongoing coaching, aiming to significantly improve foundational literacy and numeracy outcomes for children in underserved rural communities.
Beyond the immediate impact in classrooms, Teach For Uganda works toward long-term systemic transformation through its growing network of alumni. After completing their two-year commitment, these individuals transition into roles as education leaders, social entrepreneurs, and policy influencers. TFU also collaborates with the Ministry of Education and Sports and has expanded its reach to support in-service government teachers, integrating digital learning projects and financial literacy programs to bridge the gap between urban and rural learners.
