Company Description

The Goethe-Zentrum Kampala (GZK) / Ugandan German Cultural Society (UGCS) is a non-profit cultural organization established in 1989 to foster bilateral relations between Germany and Uganda. Located on Plot 52, Bukoto Street in Kamwokya, Kampala, the center serves as a vibrant platform for intercultural dialogue and educational cooperation. Formally accredited as a cooperation partner of the global Goethe-Institut network in 2008, GZK operates as the central hub for German language acquisition and contemporary European-African artistic exchange in the region.
Language instruction forms a cornerstone of the center’s daily operations, offering structured, accredited courses aligned with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). Courses are tailored for adults and delivered through extensive, intensive, online, or hybrid modes spanning levels from beginner A1 to expert C1. Standard 9-week entry-level courses (A1 & A2) are priced at UGX 1,080,000, while advanced B1 modules cost UGX 1,200,000, alongside an annual student membership fee of UGX 30,000. Crucially, the institute is the sole authorized testing center in Uganda for the internationally recognized Goethe-Zertifikat exams, which are essential for individuals pursuing family reunification, work visas, or higher education in Germany.
Beyond educational pathways, GZK is a dynamic catalyst for the local creative economy, hosting diverse programs on its rooftop terrace and in its basement screening rooms. It organizes major recurring arts showcases, including the Ngalabi Short Film Festival, the Azulato Children’s Festival, and the experimental collaborative program known as The Research Lab. Through these exhibitions, poetry nights, and musical showcases, the center supports Ugandan artists by facilitating cross-cultural networking with international creators and providing physical spaces for artistic expression.
As part of its modern mandate, Goethe-Zentrum Kampala actively collaborates with international bodies like the European Union’s Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund (AMIF) to prepare professionals moving to Germany. Its pre-integration project, Mein Weg nach Deutschland (My Way to Germany), offers vital pre-departure advice, legal migration orientation, and socio-cultural counseling to East Africans. By blending top-tier linguistic training with robust social, professional, and artistic networks, GZK continues to serve as an indispensable bridge connecting Uganda to the broader European continent.
