Company Description
The Uganda Law Society (ULS) is the professional bar association for all lawyers in Uganda, established by an Act of Parliament in 1956. Its primary mission is to foster legal professionalism, promote human rights, and uphold the rule of law while assisting the government and judiciary in the administration of justice. The society operates as a statutory body, meaning every practicing lawyer in the country is required by law to be a member, ensuring a unified voice for the legal fraternity.
Currently, the society is operating under a highly active leadership that has introduced a more assertive approach to legal activism. The ULS serves as a watchdog over the three branches of government, frequently issuing public statements and petitions against actions perceived to undermine constitutional order or judicial independence. This advocacy extends to challenging new legislation and executive orders that may infringe upon the rights of citizens, making the society a central pillar of Uganda’s civil society.
Beyond its role in national advocacy, the Uganda Law Society manages a vast Legal Aid Project that provides free legal advice and representation to indigent and marginalized persons across the country. Through various regional clinics, it ensures that access to justice is not limited to those with financial means. Additionally, the society oversees the continuous professional development of its members, hosting training sessions on emerging legal fields such as digital forensics, oil and gas law, and international arbitration to keep the Ugandan bar globally competitive.

- Public Awareness: Educating the general public about their legal rights and responsibilities through community outreach and media engagement.
