Company Description
Union Transport Alliance, also known as the Alliance for Transporters Union, is a commercial umbrella body established to organize and formalize Uganda’s transport industry. Formally launched in March 2026 at Hotel Africana in Kampala under the theme “Unity for Commercial Growth,” the organization was created to consolidate the country’s highly fragmented public transport operations. Led by Chairman Frank Mawejje, the alliance functions as sub-Saharan Africa’s first integrated commercial transport alliance, aiming to convert massive network numbers into widespread financial security.
The alliance bridges a critical economic gap by uniting four major informal transport associations that operate without coordinated corporate structure. By bringing together boda-boda riders, taxi operators, bus operators, and truck drivers under one unified ecosystem, the collective organization seeks to empower millions of workers. This structural harmonization provides members with the collective bargaining power, standard administrative rules, and shared operational support needed to escape systemic poverty.
The organization drives socio-economic transformation by introducing localized commercial products and sustainable technology assets to its members. Operating through the centralized Union App UG, the body manages a commercial “supermarket” ecosystem that supplies riders and drivers with essential everyday commodities at lower operational rates. Furthermore, the platform partners with telecommunications companies and energy enterprises to introduce affordable data communication frameworks and push for a broad shift toward sustainable electric mobility.
The diverse portfolio of commercial consumer products, service sectors, and green energy initiatives managed under the unified ecosystem includes:
- Four Founding Transport Unions: Unites the individual leadership boards of the national Boda Boda Union, Taxi Union, Bus Union, and Truck Drivers Association.
- Union App UG: Serves as the central digital platform for tracking services, ride-hailing requests, and community product access.
- Affordable Union Mobile Bundles: Offers specialized all-in-one daily communication packages launched in partnership with MTN Uganda for informal workers.
- Electric Transport Transition: Partners with e-mobility firms to encourage the adoption of electric bikes and reduce the impact of rising fuel costs.
- Asset and Consumable Supply Chains: Distributes critical business assets through countrywide stockist shops, including smartphones, bike loans, vehicle tyres, spare parts, and oil.
