Yo Kuku! (produced by HMH-Kuku Ltd) is Uganda’s leading commercial brand of premium fresh and frozen chicken. Established in 2011 and formally commissioned by President Yoweri Museveni in 2013, the enterprise was founded to provide a highly reliable, hygienic, and affordable poultry supply chain across East Africa. In June 2024, the regional poultry conglomerate Africa Poultry Development Limited (APDL) acquired full ownership of the company to integrate it into its widespread sustainable food production network.
The infrastructure behind the brand utilizes a fully integrated, farm-to-table business model. It operates a dedicated feed mill (producing Kuku Feeds), automated broiler farms, and an advanced poultry processing plant built on a massive 64-acre complex in Semuto, Kapeka (roughly 50 kilometers outside of Kampala). The company takes strict pride in consumer safety and nutrition, feeding its birds exclusively on local plant proteins (primarily yellow maize and soya) without relying on artificial growth hormones or antibiotics.
All items distributed under the brand are certified 100% Halal and packaged to serve both domestic kitchens and high-volume commercial caterers. Their extensive product line includes whole chickens categorized by purpose (such as Standard, Spring Griller, and Muchomo sizes), alongside specialized pre-cut portions like drumsticks, thighs, gizzards, wings, fillets, and processed chicken burger patties. This high-quality catalog earned the enterprise the People’s Choice Award for preferred poultry brand in Uganda.
The distribution network operates through localized corporate outlets known as Kuku Shops, with its central business office stationed at Plot 2-10, Hamu Road in Bugolobi, Kampala. Physical retail storefronts span key metropolitan nodes like Bukoto, Namugongo, Entebbe, and Mukono, alongside upcountry cities including Jinja, Mbale, Masaka, Mbarara, Gulu, and Hoima. For localized doorstep logistics, the company partners directly with regional delivery applications like Jumia Food Uganda and SafeBoda.
