Company Description
Yumbe District is located in the West Nile sub-region of north-western Uganda and was established in 2006 after being carved out of Arua District. The district shares borders with Moyo District to the east, Arua District to the south, Maracha District to the southwest, and the Republic of South Sudan to the north. Yumbe is predominantly rural, with a population largely engaged in subsistence agriculture, livestock rearing, and small-scale trade. Due to its proximity to South Sudan, the district also hosts a significant refugee population, making it a key area for humanitarian response, cross-border trade, and development interventions.
Yumbe District Local Government is responsible for the administration and service delivery within the district in line with Uganda’s decentralization policy. The Local Government oversees key sectors such as education, health, production and marketing, works and technical services, community development, and finance. Through its political leadership headed by the District Chairperson and the technical leadership led by the Chief Administrative Officer, the district coordinates development planning, resource allocation, and implementation of government programmes aimed at improving livelihoods, strengthening local institutions, and enhancing social service delivery for both host communities and refugees.
The Yumbe District Service Commission is a constitutional body established under Article 198 of the Constitution of the Republic of Uganda. The Commission is mandated to manage human resources for the district by overseeing the recruitment, confirmation, promotion, discipline, and retirement of public officers within the district public service. Operating independently, the District Service Commission ensures that staffing decisions are conducted in a fair, transparent, and merit-based manner, thereby supporting effective service delivery and strengthening governance and accountability within Yumbe District Local Government.
