Job Title: Assistant Manager Brokerage

Department: Business Development
Report To: Head of Business Development/Designate

JOB PURPOSE (Job Summary)

The Assistant Manager – Brokerage is responsible for strengthening broker relationships, growing the Company’s corporate insurance portfolio, and driving the acquisition and retention of profitable business. The role focuses on delivering exceptional customer service, identifying growth opportunities, negotiating favourable business terms, and achieving agreed sales and revenue targets.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Broker Relationship Management

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with insurance brokers and intermediaries to drive sustainable business growth.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for assigned brokers, ensuring timely and effective resolution of queries and service-related issues.
  • Conduct regular broker visits, engagement meetings, and presentations to strengthen partnerships and enhance business opportunities.
  • Build strategic relationships with key broker decision-makers to position the Company as a preferred insurance partner.

2. Business Development and Portfolio Growth

  • Drive the acquisition of new business through broker channels in line with approved sales and revenue targets.
  • Identify and pursue opportunities to expand the Company’s corporate and commercial insurance portfolio.
  • Develop and implement broker engagement strategies to increase market penetration and business volumes.
  • Support the preparation and presentation of competitive insurance solutions and proposals for prospective clients.

Performance Management and Learning & Development

  • Coordinate implementation of the Company’s Performance Management System through the HRMIS.
  • Monitor performance review timelines and ensure timely completion of performance evaluations.
  • Consolidate organisational training needs through Training Needs Assessments (TNA).
  • Develop and maintain annual training calendars and coordinate internal and external training programmes.
  • Support leadership development, succession planning and talent management initiatives.

4. Business Negotiation and Revenue Generation

  • Negotiate terms and conditions of business within approved underwriting and pricing guidelines.
  • Support the achievement of premium income, revenue, and profitability targets.
  • Follow up quotations and business submissions to improve conversion rates and maximize business opportunities.
  • Monitor premium collections and support debt management efforts for broker-sourced business.

5. Service Delivery and Stakeholder Coordination

  • Liaise with Underwriting, Claims, Operations, and Finance teams to ensure efficient service delivery to brokers and clients.
  • Facilitate the prompt issuance of quotations, policies, endorsements, and other insurance documentation.
  • Coordinate timely resolution of claims and service issues affecting broker and client satisfaction.
  • Ensure adherence to agreed service standards and turnaround times.

6. Market Intelligence and Reporting

  • Monitor market trends, competitor activities, and emerging business opportunities within the insurance industry.
  • Gather and analyze broker feedback to identify areas for service improvement and product enhancement.
  • Prepare and submit periodic business development, portfolio performance, and broker activity reports.
  • Maintain an updated pipeline of prospective business opportunities and strategic accounts.

7. Compliance and Risk Management

  • Ensure all broker-related activities comply with regulatory requirements, company policies, and operational procedures.
  • Promote ethical business practices and maintain high standards of professionalism in all stakeholder engagements.
  • Support the implementation of risk management and compliance initiatives relevant to the business development function.

KEY PERFORMANCE MEASURES

  • Broker Relationship Management: Maintain strong and productive broker relationships through regular engagement, prompt issue resolution, and high broker satisfaction levels.
  • Business Growth & Portfolio Development: Achieve agreed premium growth targets through the acquisition of new business, expansion of existing accounts, and development of new broker partnerships.
  • Business Retention & Profitability: Maintain high renewal and retention rates while ensuring the profitability and quality of the broker-managed portfolio.
  • Customer Service & Stakeholder Management: Deliver exceptional service standards to brokers and clients through timely responses, effective coordination, and efficient management of business transactions.
  • Sales Performance & Revenue Generation: Achieve sales, revenue, and premium income targets through effective pipeline management, opportunity conversion, and business development initiatives.
  • Portfolio Monitoring & Reporting: Ensure accurate performance tracking, market intelligence reporting, and timely submission of business performance reports to support decision-making.
  • Market Development & Business Opportunities: Identify emerging market opportunities, competitor activities, and client needs to drive sustainable growth and strengthen the Company’s market position.

WORKING RELATIONS

Internal: MD, ED, GM, HODs, staff.

External: Existing and potential brokers, regulators, business partners and industry stakeholders.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Academic

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Insurance, Finance, or a related field.

Professional

  • Diploma or Professional Qualification in Insurance (ACII, AIIK, CII or equivalent) is an added advantage.
