Job Description

Uganda Heart Institute (UHI) is established by the Uganda Heart Institute Act CAP 258 as an Autonomous Government Entity to undertake and coordinate the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular disease in Uganda.

UHI intends to recruit competent people in various departments, to enhance its human resource capacity and support the effective delivery of specialised cardiovascular services.

Applications are therefore invited from suitably qualified Ugandans to fill the under-listed positions.  Post : Associate Consultant – Cardiac Critical Care

Salary Scale : UHI 2 MED-1

Number of posts : Four (4)

Reports to : Consultant – Cardiac Critical Care

Directly Supervises : Medical Officers

Job Purpose:

To provide comprehensive specialist care in management of cardiac critical care patients with the aim of achieving optimal patient outcomes.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Diagnose and manage cardiac conditions and complications
  • Assist in planning and coordinating Continuing Professional Development in his/her area of specialty for Health professional at the Institute and the catchment area.
  • Plan, co-ordinate and conduct operational research in his/her specialty.
  • Manage national referral system for patients at a superspecialised level.
  • To supervise and train Medical Officers, and other Health Professionals under him/her.
  • Ensure that discipline and the ethical code of conduct are observed by the staff under him/her.
  • Provide technical and professional advice in his/her area of specialty.
  • Advice on the procurement of equipment, drugs and other logistics required for his/her specialty.

Person/ Job Specifications

  • MBChB degree or its equivalent from a recognized University or Institution.
  • Master of Medicine (Anaesthesia/ Surgery/ Internal Medicine)) or its equivalent in the relevant specialty or its equivalent from a recognized University/Institution.
  • Fellowship in cardiac intensive care Management (at least two years training).
  • Should be registered with the Uganda Medical and Dental Practitioners Council
  • Should be interested in research.
  • Must possess a valid practicing license.

Experience

Should have a good working experience of at least three (3) years as General practitioner.
