Job Description

Clerk of Works

Number of Vacancies: Four (4)
Department: Operations and Engineering
Reports to: Project Engineer

Job Purpose

To ensure that construction works are professionally executed according to specifications and in a cost-effective manner to support the achievement of the company’s strategic goals and objectives.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Supervision

  • Effectively supervise assigned projects.
  • Ensure proper workmanship and adherence to approved specifications.
  • Verify that completed works meet agreed quality standards.

Materials Inspection

  • Inspect construction materials to confirm:
    • Quality
    • Quantity
    • Compliance with project requirements
  • Ensure materials used contribute to quality building and road works.

Site Diary Management

  • Maintain an accurate site diary recording:
    • Labour deployment
    • Weather conditions
    • Materials received and used
    • Hours worked
  • Ensure records support effective project implementation and monitoring.

Reporting

  • Use information from site diaries to prepare reports.
  • Submit monthly reports to the respective Senior Project Engineer and Architect.

Payment Verification

  • Evaluate and verify contractors’ claims for completed works.
  • Recommend payments based on verified work completed.
Minimum Qualifications and Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in:

    • Building Engineering
    • Civil Engineering
    • Or a closely related discipline

    from a recognized university or institution.

  • Postgraduate Diploma in:

    • Project Planning and Management
    • Or a related field

    is an added advantage.

  • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in a similar position within a busy public or private construction company.
  • Proficiency in:
    • Engineering-related software
    • Microsoft Word
    • Microsoft Excel
    • Other relevant computer applications
  • Experience in housing-related projects within public or private sector organizations is an added advantage.
Behavioral and Technical Competencies
  • High level of integrity and professional maturity.
  • Strong cost-consciousness and commitment to value for money.
  • Ability to build and promote teamwork.
  • Strong technical competence in the relevant field.
  • Knowledge of NHCC products and services.
