Job Description

Department: Credit Control Officer

Reports to: Field Sales Manager-Private Market 

Job Summary:

To manage and control Private Market customer receivables by ensuring timely collection of outstanding balances, accurate account reconciliation, effective monitoring of credit exposure, and compliance with approved credit policies, while minimizing bad debt.

Key Responsibilities

  • Follow up and collect outstanding balances from Private Market customers to achieve agreed collection targets.

  • Reconcile customer accounts, resolve discrepancies and ensure accurate and up-to-date debtor records.

  • Monitor customer credit exposure and payment performance, identifying and escalating high-risk and overdue accounts.

  • Support the opening and maintenance of customer accounts, including credit documentation, limits and payment terms.

  • Prepare and maintain accurate reports on collections, ageing balances, credit exposure and customer payment performance.

  • Work closely with Sales, Finance and customers to resolve payment disputes, improve collections and strengthen customer account management.

  • Ensure compliance with approved credit control policies and procedures while supporting the reduction of bad debt and overdue receivables.

Minimum Qualifications & Experience

Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, Commerce, Business Administration, Economics or a related field from a recognized institution  Experience Minimum of 2–3 years’ relevant experience in Credit Control, Accounts Receivable, Debt Collection, Credit Management or a related role. Experience managing customer accounts and collections, preferably in a pharmaceutical, healthcare, FMCG, or other credit-based commercial environment.  Skills and Competencies • Ability to assess customer payment behaviour, monitor credit exposure and identify high-risk accounts. • Ability to effectively follow up and recover outstanding customer balances. • Ability to analyse debtor ageing, payment trends, account balances and collection performance. • Ability to identify and resolve customer account, invoicing and payment discrepancies. • Ability to negotiate payment commitments and resolve outstanding debt while maintaining good customer relationships. • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to engage customers professionally. • Computer skills • Ability to investigate payment issues, resolve disputes and recommend appropriate solutions. • High level of accuracy in maintaining customer records, reconciliations and credit documentation. • Ability to work effectively with Sales, Finance and other departments to resolve customer and collection issues • Demonstrates confidentiality, accountability, persistence and ethical conduct when handling customer accounts and financial information.
