Job Purpose

The Digital Strategist is a Senior Management role at UGAFODE responsible for driving digital transformation initiatives that continuously enable the institution to improve customer experience, operational efficiency, launch innovative products, and remain highly competitive. The position also champions digital initiatives that target financial inclusion for marginalized groups such as women and refugees.

The role reports directly to the Executive Director and works closely with the ICT Department in delivering multiple digital solutions across all departments and for UGAFODE customers.

Key Responsibilities and Functions

Manage Digital Strategy

Be a thought leader on emerging digital trends and opportunities that support strategic growth and staff productivity.
Lead end-to-end digital transformation projects from prototype to commercial launch.
Advise management on digital innovations that best support customer needs.
Ensure digitalization projects are effectively managed with appropriate reporting and oversight controls.
Drive cultural change by promoting digital capability, user-focused design, and agile methodologies across the business.

Overhaul Digital Channels

Assess internal processes for digital transformation and prioritize customer involvement to achieve customer-driven innovations.
Develop guidance and training for process owners to support future digital transformation.
Work with the ICT Department to deploy technology solutions that modernize financial services and improve customer experience.
Oversee pre-implementation planning, including business requirements, change management, digital business impact, risk assessments, and functional requirements.

Promote Financial Inclusion

Promote partnerships that advance UGAFODE’s digital agenda.
Design digital products targeting marginalized communities, including women in business and refugees.

Mitigate Risk

Ensure digital projects comply with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
Collaborate with Risk, Operations, and other departments to prioritize security and fraud prevention when launching digital innovations.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
Recognized professional certifications in Business and Project Management.
At least five (5) years’ managerial experience, preferably in a Bank of Uganda-regulated financial institution.
At least two (2) years’ experience managing digital transformation projects from requirements gathering and prototyping through implementation.
Experience in product development, product positioning, product launches, and go-to-market strategy execution.
Excellent interpersonal and networking skills.
Agile, tech-savvy individual with the ability to manage and resolve complex problems.
Experience in process re-engineering or process mapping is highly desirable.
