Position: Farm Manager

Role Type: Full-Time, Permanent

Location: Wakiso District, Uganda (Onsite Residency Required)

Reports To: Managing Director and Board of Directors

About the Client

Our client is a fast-growing integrated commercial farm in Wakiso District with a vision of becoming one of Uganda’s leading model farms and agri-tourism destinations. As part of its ambitious growth strategy, the farm is investing in expanding its crop and livestock enterprises, strengthening operational excellence, and building a sustainable, commercially successful agricultural business.

To support this vision, our client seeks to recruit a dynamic, hands-on, and commercially driven Farm Manager who will provide both strategic leadership and day-to-day operational oversight of the farm.

Job summary

The Farm Manager will be responsible for the overall management and performance of the farm, ensuring operational efficiency, profitability, and sustainable growth. This role requires an individual who enjoys being on the ground, leading teams, solving operational challenges, and driving commercial success.

The successful candidate must be comfortable residing on or spending the majority of their time on-site to provide consistent leadership and supervision across all farm operations.

Key Responsibilities

Operational Leadership

  • Lead the day-to-day management and annual planning of all farm operations, including crop production, livestock management, infrastructure, equipment, and farm resources.
  • Provide hands-on oversight to ensure all activities are executed efficiently, safely, and in line with operational plans.
  • Monitor productivity across all farm enterprises and implement continuous improvement initiatives to maximize performance.
  • Coordinate maintenance and repairs of farm equipment, machinery, buildings, and infrastructure.

Strategic and Commercial Management

  • Work closely with the Managing Director and Board to develop and implement strategies that support sustainable growth and profitability.
  • Prepare operational plans, budgets, forecasts, and management reports.
  • Monitor financial performance, control operational costs, and ensure optimal utilization of farm resources.
  • Identify opportunities to diversify income streams and improve overall business performance.

Marketing and Business Development

  • Develop and implement strategies to market and sell farm produce and livestock products.
  • Build and maintain relationships with customers, distributors, suppliers, and other key stakeholders.
  • Monitor market trends and customer demand to maximize sales and profitability.
  • Promote the farm’s brand and contribute to initiatives that enhance its reputation as a leading model farm and agri-tourism destination.

People Leadership

  • Recruit, supervise, coach, mentor, and develop farm staff.
  • Build a high-performing team through continuous training, performance management, and clear delegation of responsibilities.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, discipline, and continuous improvement.

Quality, Compliance and Procurement

  • Develop, document, and implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and quality management systems across all farm operations.
  • Ensure compliance with agricultural regulations, labour legislation, environmental standards, and Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) requirements.
  • Oversee procurement of farm inputs, equipment, and supplies while ensuring cost-effectiveness and timely availability.
  • Maintain accurate operational, inventory, production, and statutory records.

Customer and Stakeholder Engagement

  • Build strong working relationships with customers, suppliers, regulatory authorities, and strategic partners.
  • Respond proactively to customer feedback and continuously improve service delivery.
  • Represent the farm professionally during stakeholder engagements and business meetings.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture, Agribusiness, Farm Management, Animal Science, Crop Science, or a related field.
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience managing operations on a commercial farm.
  • At least three (3) years’ experience in a management or supervisory role.
  • Demonstrated experience in budgeting, operational planning, procurement, and people management.
  • Experience managing integrated crop and livestock enterprises will be an added advantage.
  • Experience in marketing agricultural products and driving commercial growth is highly desirable.

Working Conditions

  • This is a resident Farm Manager position requiring the successful candidate to live on or spend the majority of their time on-site in Wakiso District.
  • The role is operationally intensive and requires a visible, hands-on leader who is actively involved in the day-to-day running of the farm rather than frequent travel.
  • Flexibility to work outside standard business hours during peak farming seasons or operational demands will be required
