Job Description

HEAVY TRUCK DRIVER

Group Company: Alliad Uganda Limited
Designation: Heavy Truck Driver
Office Location: Kampala, Uganda – Assigned Routes (KLA–MSA–KLA / KLA–Buliisa)
Department: Operations / Logistics
Reports To: Logistics Coordinator / Fleet Supervisor
Contract Type: Full‑Time, Permanent

POSITION DESCRIPTION

Safely operate company heavy‑duty trucks on domestic and cross‑border routes, ensuring timely deliveries, proper care of vehicles, compliance with traffic and transport regulations, and accurate completion of all trip documentation.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Operate assigned 5-30 ton trucks on Uganda–Mombasa, boarder to border and Tilenga routes
  • Conduct pre‑trip and post‑trip inspections and complete checklists
  • Ensure all required trip documentation is carried and accurately completed (manifests, waybills, fuel records, logbooks)
  • Adhere to assigned trip schedules and border crossing procedures
  • Report delays, breakdowns, accidents, or incidents immediately to the Logistics Coordinator
  • Maintain accurate driver logbooks (kilometres, fuel, departure/arrival times)
  • Observe driver rest regulations and safe driving hours
  • Maintain cleanliness and basic vehicle condition

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Support basic inspections and cooperate with maintenance teams as required.

REQUIRED CERTIFICATION / TRAINING

  • Valid Driving Licence – Class C Permit or above (mandatory)
  • Defensive Driving Training / Certification (mandatory)
  • Valid PSV Licence
  • Valid Medical Fitness Certificate

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS (PREFERRED)

Category: Transport / Driver Pool
Minimum Education: Ability to read and write
Technical Training: Heavy goods vehicle operation (advantage)

REQUIRED WORK EXPERIENCE

Industry: Road Freight / Transport
Role: Heavy Truck Driver
Years of Experience: Minimum 5 years driving heavy trucks

KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS (KPIs)

  • On‑time departure and delivery
  • Zero at‑fault accidents
  • Fuel efficiency within approved benchmarks
  • Accurate trip documentation
  • Vehicle condition maintained with no negligent damage

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES

  • Road safety awareness
  • Route discipline and time management
  • Accountability and reliability
  • Compliance with instructions and procedures

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE

  • Road traffic regulations
  • Basic cross‑border driving requirements
  • Vehicle inspection and safety procedures

REQUIRED SKILLS

  • Defensive and safe driving
  • Basic vehicle troubleshooting
  • Record keeping and logbook completion
  • Clear communication with fleet supervisors

REQUIRED ABILITIES

Physical:
Fit for long‑haul driving and yard/loading environments

Other:
Alertness, discipline, ability to work under pressure and during extended trips

WORK ENVIRONMENT DETAILS

On‑road operations, border posts, loading and offloading sites.

SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS

Travel: Continuous (domestic and cross‑border)
Vehicle: Assigned company truck
Work Permit: As applicable

EMPLOYMENT TERMS

Pay Rate: As per approved driver payroll + applicable trip allowances
Time Constraints: Shift‑based; availability during nights, weekends, and holidays
Compliance Related: Road safety and internal fleet procedures
Union Affiliation: N/A
