To effectively manage motor claims related to leakage by accurately assessing losses, detecting and eliminating fraudulent, exaggerated or fictitious claims and ensuring the efficient, customer-focused and cost-effective settlement of all motor claims in accordance with company policies, underwriting guidelines and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Verify and validate all motor assessment reports before authorizing repairs; determine correct pre-accident values and ensure compliance with policy conditions.
  • Carry out prompt first inspections on reported accidents and post-repair inspections within assigned regions to confirm quality and completeness of repairs.
  • Enhance recoveries by properly valuing salvage/scrap parts, coordinating with disposal agents, and initiating third-party recoveries where applicable.
  • Regularly interact with internal staff and provide technical guidance on various reasonable options to settle motor claims
  • Identify and flag exaggerated, fictitious or non-accident-related damages; adjust repair costs to reflect reasonable market rates.
  • Continuously appraise garages, assessors and other service providers for pricing, turnaround time, quality and integrity; recommend additions or removals from approved panels.
  • Provide timely, evidence-based technical support to internal claims staff, underwriting and management on vehicle repair options, parts availability, and settlement strategies
  • Prepare periodic reports on customer feedback, repair cost trends, salvage values, service provider performance, and motor vehicle market pricing.
  • Ensure all assessments and recommendations comply with national traffic/insurance regulations and internal company procedures.

Deliverables for the role

 

  • Accurate and timely repair cost assessments with documented justification.
  • Negotiated discounts and cost savings with service providers.
  • Verified post-repair inspections with reports on workmanship and parts used.
  • Immediate site inspections for newly reported accidents.
  • Salvage and recovery reports showing improved returns and reduced net claim costs.

ANTI-MONEY LAUNDERING (AML) EXPECTATION

The incumbent will be responsible for ensuring adherence to, implementation of, and adoption of Compliance, Anti-Money Laundering (AML), and Sanctions-related policies, procedures, and process requirements within Old Mutual and its subsidiaries. This includes execution of customer due diligence processes, ensuring compliance with Know-Your-Customer (KYC) standards, conducting ongoing and enhanced due diligence, and maintaining data quality. Additionally, the role involves identifying and monitoring potential AML, Sanctions, or Compliance breaches and unusual activities, and escalating these concerns to the Risk and Compliance Office for further action.

Skills And Competencies.

 

  • Knowledge of motor vehicle diagnosis and repairs including valuation.
  • Analysis of motor vehicle damages.
  • Analytical thinking.
  • Report writing/drafting and presentation.
  • Strong communication skills (both written and verbal).
  • Fraud detection capabilities.
  • Strong negotiation skills.

Knowledge And Experience.

Academic qualifications (minimum).

 

  • Bachelor of Science degree (Bsc) in Mechanical Engineering or any other relevant or related field (with a specific bias in automotive engineering).
  • Certificate of Proficiency (COP) in Insurance – Required.
  • Diploma in Insurance (i.e. ITC &/or CII) – An added advantage.
  • Certificate in Loss Adjustment (CILA) – An added advantage.

Work Experience.

At least 3 years relevant experience.
