Job Description

The National Information Technology Authority-Uganda (NITA-U) was established as a statutory body under the National Information Technology Authority, Uganda Act, 2009, as one of the key players in the Information and Communications Technology Sector. It’s mandated to coordinate, promote, and monitor IT development within the context of national social and economic development, with a vision of “Lives transformed through e-service delivery”.

International Engagement Officer

Job Purpose
  • To coordinate the Office’s international relations, partnerships, and cooperation initiatives with global and regional stakeholders in the field of data protection and privacy and contribute to strengthening the Office’s international profile by managing strategic relationships with foreign regulators, international organizations, development partners, and global privacy networks.
Key Accountabilities
  • Proactively research and design concepts for international partnerships that advance the mandate of the Office.
  • Coordinate and maintain strategic partnerships with international and regional organizations involved in data protection and digital governance, and track key outcomes, resolutions, and commitments.
  • Conduct research and analysis on emerging global trends in Data Protection in addition to monitoring and tracking international initiatives related to cross-border data flows, privacy standards, and digital governance.
  • Prepare briefing notes, policy briefs, speeches, and position papers for international meetings and conferences.
  • Maintain up to date contact databases and mailing lists of key stakeholders.
  • Support the Office’s participation in international regulatory networks, facilitate cross-border collaboration, and promote alignment with global best practices, standards, and frameworks on personal data protection.
  • Work with different departments to generate content and support the development of communication materials including press releases, social media content, newsletters, presentations and reports for stakeholder briefings and other engagements.
  • Promote knowledge exchange between national stakeholders and international partners and support change management for adoption of new policies, tools, and initiatives arising from international partnerships.
  • Support the planning and execution of public relations initiatives.
  • Manage calendar of international and regional events and coordinate the Office’s participation.
  • Perform any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.
Position Requirements
Education
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Communication, Marketing, Public Relations, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related field from a recognized university is required.
  • Training or certification in International Relations, Diplomacy, Stakeholder Management, Change Management or Project Management is an added advantage.
Experience
  • At least three years of active experience in Public Relations, Corporate Communications, Stakeholder Management, Change Management, or related areas.
Technical Expertise
  • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills.
  • Excellent use of digital communication tools.
  • Excellent organisational, scheduling, and planning skills.
  • Creativity.
  • Self-confident with very good interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to plan and execute campaigns that deliver measurable results.
Nature and Scope
  • Able to prioritize and coordinate work streams/projects to drive the delivery of tasks.
  • A resilient team player with a ‘can-do’ attitude, who is willing to take responsibility, lead, and work with others to create breakthrough solutions to complex problems.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both oral and written).
